We are incredibly lucky to have so many eating options in the Scottish Borders. Dining out is an absolute pleasure with places to have brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. We have recommendations on our noticeboard or guests can get in touch prior to booking for suggestions. There are artisan bakers, cafes, bistros, restaurants in many of the Border towns so you could go on a food safari around the countryside and then perhaps next day go for a hike up the Eildons to walk it all off.
Another idea is to get a fabulous cook we know to cook up a storm for you, either in the form of a picnic basket, afternoon tea or your fave delicacies so that you can simply heat up in your roulotte and dine al fresco under the stars. Just get in touch on our contact form or email us.
Some of our fave places include: Provender in Melrose; The Caddyman at Mounthooly en route to Jedburgh; Apples for Jam, The Townhouse and Burts in Melrose; The Hoebridge at Gattonside. For Italian food, including metre long pizzas go to Hunter's Stables in St Boswells. The best sourdough ever is from Cristina of The Naked Sourdough in Jedburgh and Kelso. Delia of Jammy Cook should really be called Delisha as her food is so good - can be ordered and delivered but organise well in advance of arrival.
Local independent shops in Melrose include the Melrose Deli, Fishmongers, Martin Baird, the butchers who also stocks excellent wine, and the wonderful veg shop which even has a room dedicated to potatoes of all kinds.
These are but a few of our fabulous eateries around Roulotte Retreat. Explore, eat and enjoy!
We can also recommend street food vans, quirky bbq, etc for large groups, weddings and events.
